M-207 Mechatronics
Automated Parking Gate System

A mechatronics project focused on designing and building a simulated automated parking-access system using an Arduino Mega 2560. The prototype combined ultrasonic vehicle detection, infrared parking-stall sensors, six-bit binary-code access control, LED status indicators, and L298N-driven DC motors to manage two sequential entry gates.
System Design
Built a two-gate parking-access prototype using Arduino control, two DC motors, an L298N motor driver, ultrasonic sensors at each gate, infrared sensors at two parking stalls, and three status LEDs.
Access Control
Implemented a six-bit binary input system that converts a user-entered code from binary to decimal and opens the first gate only when it matches the programmed access value.
Occupancy Logic
Used infrared sensors to monitor two parking spaces and prevent new vehicle entry when both stalls were occupied.
Gate Safety
Programmed each gate to remain open while a vehicle was detected, then close before the next gate opened. The system used motor speed and direction control to operate the gate arms.
